PICO 2L was the first Dark Matter bubble chamber detector operated at SNOLAB by the PICO collaboration. This picture shows the pressure vessel during the installation in fall of 2013. The inner vessel with the active liquid was located at the centre of the pressure vessel. When the system was operating, a stereoscopic camera observed the chamber to detect bubbles from particle interactions.
The first run of PICO 2L lasted from October 2013 to May 2014. Results from this run have been published here.
PICO 2L started a second data taking phase in February of 2015 with a new, all synthetic quartz vessel and a new set of piezoelectric sensors. The run has ended in November 2015. In January 2016 PICO reported that the 2L bubble chamber was operated with a recoil rate that is compatible with background free in run 2.
PICO 2L was decommissioned in 2016.
